In addition to the HoloPRISM® library, custom patterns and imagery can be created
to suit your needs. Here are two design approaches to ensure that our customers can
differentiate themselves with custom holographic designs in the marketplace:
- Directed Creation
The customer directs pattern creation by either suggesting themes or supplying artwork.
Vacumet Corp. then creates the fundamental artwork used for the hologram and
the overall design of the pattern. Vacumet retains the pattern tooling and the
customer may have design exclusivity for a limited time.
- Full Design Support
The customer commits design support for the entire process. The customer provides
artwork and works with Vacumet's creative team to create the total image and final
pattern, selecting patterns, gratings and techniques similar to how traditional
designers specify colors. Vacumet retains the pattern tooling and the customer retains
unlimited exclusive usage rights.
If you choose to create a custom image, you'll need to determine the type of hologram
that you wish to develop. Each type (listed below) has unique properties. Production costs
differ based on the level of complexity of the image.
2D/3D Hologram
These holographic images demonstrate true depth based on the spacing of different layers
of flat artwork. Computer-generated art, as well as conventional print graphics, can be
used to create 2D/3D hologram. HoloPRISM® examples of this technique include the
first custom 2D/3D hologram for the entertainment world - Microsoft's Jade Empire Limited
Edition Xbox game and DVD packaging for a variety of popular movies.

3D Holograms
These are true, full three-dimensional holograms created from a one-to-one scale model.
Examples of this technique include the Johnny Quest SpaghettiOs® project.
No Color Holography
This effect is generated with a proprietary technique and provides designers alternatives
to surface diffraction and white motion holography. This can provide a more subdued,
elegant look for a customer's product. The following photo depicting the Victoria's Secret
packaging for the Angels perfume gift set is an example of no color holography.

Surface Diffraction Gratings
These patterns are made up of "rainbow" diffraction images. They create colorful
effects but provide no true depth. These can be created by mechanical means and by dot
matrix exposures. These gift wrap patterns pictured below show an example of surface
diffraction gratings.

White Motion Holography
These patterns are also done by dot matrix exposures with the diffraction giving more of a
diffused, white effect rather than bright rainbow. The following gift wrap pattern is an
example of white motion holography.

Shim Lines
Shim lines are present in all holographic material. They are the result of the gap formed
when one pattern is joined to another to create a sheet or roll of holographic imagery.
With HoloPRISM® holographic paper and/or plastic, this gap will be no more than 1/32" wide.
Shim lines typically occur every 48" downweb and 32" crossweb. The impact of
shim lines can be reduced or even eliminated with proper layouts and pattern requests.
